Sophia Amargi, MFT is a licensed Psychotherapist, Trauma expert, and motivational and inspirational speaker with a private practice in Corona Del Mar, Calif. She works with couples and individuals, healing their unconscious wounds and relational Traumas from childhood.
Sophia has a Masters Degree in Transpersonal Psychotherapy from California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco and is a trained EMDR provider, supervisor for MFT Interns and a consultant for other licensed psychotherapists.
Additionally, Sophia consults for CEO's and others in Fortune 500 companies who are seeking the integration point between their external accomplishments and their internal and spiritual truth that wants to fully express in work, romance and play. Sophia also lectures, consults and provides psychoeducation and Trauma treatment modalities for Addiction and Recovery centers in Southern California. She has been an adjunct Professor at JFK University-in the Graduate Psychology Program and continues to teach the workshop she developed-Reclaiming Your Essential Self at retreat centers around the country. Sophia believes in the ongoing training and shared ideas of healers in this field and has attended multiple trainings in Trauma treatment to add to her knowledge and practice, including trainings by Bessel Van Der Kolk, Marsha Lineham- in her DBT protocol, Peter A. Levine, Dan Siegel and Gabor Mate, to name a few. Sophia was a member of a Trauma study group in the Bay area working with Dr. Judith Herman's writings and research focusing on her book Trauma and Recovery as well as studying and integrating the research of Allan Schore in affective neuroscience, Trauma theory, developmental psychology, attachment theory and psychotherapy. Sophia often uses her knowledge of Jungian psychology, symbols and archtypes and the concept of "The Shadow" when diving deeply into unconscious Trauma resolution work with her clients. In addition to her long standing work in healing Trauma, Sophia works with Dr. Michal Summerlin at EK Psych who's research has focused on relational Trauma in early childhood and its influence on the regulatory function of the autonomic nervous system and corresponding personality structures.
